Recruit Academy

Volunteer Applications are accepted year round as multiple academies are held throughout the year. Volunteer Structural Firefighting academy's are typically about five (5) months in duration & cover the IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting & First Aid. Academy is typically held Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 1800-2200 hrs and Saturday's from 0800-1800 hrs.

Volunteer Expectations

Residents - structural Volunteer Firefighters who live at one of our eight (8) stations are expected to pull a minimum of three (3) watches/ shifts (1800-0600 hrs) per week, including at least one (1) Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Residents receive a semi-furnished room with a common living area at no change. 

In/ Out of District Volunteers - Volunteer Firefighters who live within, or outside of district boundaries but NOT at one of our eight (8) stations are expected to pull four (4) watches/ shifts (1800-0600 hr) per month, including at least one (1) Friday, Saturday or Sunday. 

All Volunteers - attend weekly Thursday night drills (1900-2200 hrs) to ensure they are up-to-date on the most current standards & continue to work safely while meeting the needs of the citizens of our district. Volunteers receive a small stipend for pulling shifts.


There is a background check performed on each accepted applicant. An Applicant for the Academy must be 18 years of age, have a valid Washington State Driver's License, a relatively"clean" driving record (must be insurable by our insurance company) & have a high school diploma or GED. An Applicant must have the physical strength, health and endurance to perform fire suppression and rescue duties & successfully complete the CPAT and medical physical examination. Note: Please make sure your application is complete with all signatures. In addition to the driving record request form in the application, you also have to get your 3-year driving abstract from the DOL.
